INITIAL VISIT
What to expect at your first appointment at Dodge City Chiropractic.
History
The doctor will sit down with you and review your intake forms and take a thorough history of your chief complaint(s). This includes reviewing any imaging reports that you may bring with you. You may be asked about prior or current care for your symptoms, what aggravates the condition and what improves it, how you describe and rate your pain, as well as any medications or supplements you are currently taking. A review of systems will also be done to evaluate any other body systems potentially involved.
1
The doctor will perform an exam, which involves vitals, basic ranges of motion, testing muscle strength, dermatomes, and orthopedic tests. The purpose of the exam is to help the doctor locate the source(s) of complaint and any muscles and joints involved.

FAQs
-
Our doctors focus primarily on musculature first, and joints second. We schedule our visits for slightly longer (20 minutes) because the clinical soft tissue work is more time-consuming than the chiropractic adjustment. We have seen that most complaints are primarily muscle-based due to overuse injuries, repetitive microtraumas, and sports injuries.
-
Every patient is different. Most acute cases resolve within a couple weeks, but chronic complaints take longer to resolve and may not resolve 100%. There are plenty of factors that contribute to healing and these factors will be discussed with you at your appointment and how to minimize them.
-
The initial visit takes approximately 40 minutes and we schedule all follow-up appointments for 20 minutes unless the doctors determine more time is necessary.
-
We ask that you bring your current insurance card and photo ID to help check-in go smoothly. We also ask that you bring any X-ray and/or MRI reports pertinent to your complaint so that we may review them.
-
Most insurance companies have some type of chiropractic care coverage. If you are unsure, we suggest calling your insurance company and inquiring or we may be able to tell you once you provide us with your insurance plan information.
-
Pain is very subjective. Therefore, we always tell our patients that the most uncomfortable portion of treatment is normally the clinical soft tissue work. We describe it as “hurts so good”, meaning there is some discomfort during the treatment but it is short-lived and tolerable. Most patients are also sore following treatment for approximately 24 hours.
-
We do not take X-rays in house but do refer out for them. For us, this is more cost-effective and allows X-rays to be read more accurately by a radiologist.
